January 4th marks National Ribbon Skirt Day in Canada, celebrating the cultural significance of ribbon skirts and honouring Indigenous women. The day began after Isabella Kulak, a young Indigenous girl, was shamed for wearing her ribbon skirt to school, sparking a nationwide movement of support. In 2022, it was officially recognized by the Canadian government.
