Math Matters!

The new math curriculum focuses on learning the skills for an ever-changing world rooted in reasoning, communication, collaboration, and creativity.

Math is about more than just achieving the correct answer and memorizing procedures. Real math can be messy! A goal for all DSB1 learners is to be creative, jump in and communicate about math, and develop collaboration and reasoning skills that will help students succeed outside the classroom environment.

In understanding that the needs of learners are diverse, students learn and practice math concepts and skills in engaging ways, such as through math talks with whiteboards, using manipulatives, working to solve problems collaboratively, connecting experiences from real-world situations, and practicing math outdoors.
